If you have diabetes, it is recommended that you undergo an eye examination at least once a year. This is to monitor whether your diabetes causes any damage to the retina (the back part of your eye). Diabetic retinopathy can cause the growth of new blood vessels and bleeding in the back of he eye which can cause eventual blindness. Early diagnosis and treatment can stop or delay that process and allow you to maintain your eyesight.
